About Us
To My Wonderful Patients:
Many of you have asked me when I plan to retire. Until very recently I had no answer for that question. I can now tell you that the time has come for me to step aside and for Linda and me to enter a new chapter in our lives. For the past forty-seven years I have devoted my personal and professional life to this community and to the dental needs and desires of all of you. I have been greatly blessed by you and my wonderful staff in so many ways. You have all become part of our family.
I have been searching for a young dentist to assume my dental practice and am very happy to tell you that I have found just the right person in Dr. Olivia Mason. Dr. Mason is a recent graduate of West Virginia University School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree. She also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology from WVU. She is a native of Wheeling and desires to return to this area to practice dentistry and to be close to her family.
Dr. Mason obtained the majority of her prior experience through WVU Medicine, where she provided both hospital and clinical dentistry. She completed an externship at Indian Health Services at Red Lake Reservation in Bemidji, Minnesota. Dr. Mason has also provided care for patients in several dental practice settings including the Dental Center of Taylor County in Grafton, WV, and the Cassis Dental Center in Fayetteville, WV. Because of these experiences, she has discovered that she enjoys all phases of dentistry and is comfortable working with children and adults.
Dr. Mason loves being outdoors so you might see her riding her bike along the rail trail or out walking her dog, Bo. She is eager to meet each and every one of you at the office or out in public, so if you see her, please do not hesitate to introduce yourself and welcome her to our community.
I am so glad that Dr. Mason has decided to come to Wellsburg and I am confident that each of you will have your dental needs met with excellent care. Working with Dr. Mason will be my wonderful staff to greet you when you arrive at the office, help you get to know her and help her to provide the quality care you are accustomed to receiving. I will remain in the practice for a while to complete any work that I have started and to help Dr. Mason in any way she may wish. Bio
Dr. Olivia Mason is the latest addition to Almost Heaven Family Dentistry, joining the staff as
Doctor of Dental Surgeries after being hand-selected by Dr. David Edwards to take his place as he retires.
Dr. Mason, a Wheeling native, knew she wanted to help people through whatever career she
chose, and the idea of giving people back their smile made dentistry a perfect fit. She graduated from West Virginia University School of Dentistry and also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology. She completed an externship at Indian Health Services at Red Lake Reservation in Bemidji, Minnesota, and has previously made stops at dental practices like the Dental Center of Taylor County in Grafton, WV, and the Cassis Dental Center in Fayetteville, WV.
Throughout her career, Dr. Mason has become an expert in a variety of dental treatments and
also discovered that she has a particular love of working with children. Her favorite moments of the job come when she reveals a patient’s stunning transformation to them after a particularly long treatment plan concludes. The emotion they feel knowing that they finally have the smile they’ve always dreamed of is what makes it all worthwhile, she says.
In her free time, Dr. Mason loves to spend time outdoors riding bikes or walking the trails with
her dog, Bo. She’s been commuting to Almost Heaven Family Dentistry from Wheeling thus far but is now in the process of making Wellsburg her permanent home. She loves getting to know her patients and looks forward to meeting new ones, so if you see her out and about in the community, please don’t hesitate to say hello.

Routine Exams
Even if you take care of your teeth and gums at home, you still need to see your dentist for regular dental check-ups every 6 months. Dr. Edwards spends time getting to know you, understanding your oral health history, lifestyle, habits and preferences in order to create a plan of prevention and care that’s right for you.
Dental Fillings
Fillings help to restore teeth damaged by decay back to normal function. Most decay is detected during your routine examination and x-rays. The most common filling material is amalgam (silver filling) and composite (white or plastic filling). There are also gold and porcelain. The type of filling is determined by how much damage there is to the tooth.
Dentures & Veneers
Dentures
A full denture is made when people are edentulous (without teeth). Most dentures are made from high acrylic resin material which gives you a very natural look. They are expected to last between 5 - 8 years.
Removable Partial Dentures
A removable partial denture is used to replace multiple missing teeth which are attached to the remaining natural teeth. It is usually held in place by metal clasps or support.
Veneers
Dental veneers, sometimes called porcelain or laminates, are designed to cover the front surface of the teeth to improve your appearance. Veneers generally require removing less of the tooth structure as opposed to a full coverage crown. Veneers are commonly done to correct teeth that are discolored, worn down, chipped or broken, or have gaps (to close the space between the teeth).
Dental Hygiene
Maintaining good oral hygiene is one of the most important things you can do for your teeth and gums. Dr. Edwards and our team of hygienists can help you learn good oral hygiene techniques and can help point out areas of your mouth that may require extra attention during brushing and flossing.
In between your regular dental check-ups there are steps you can take to decrease the risk of developing tooth decay, gum disease, and other dental issues.
These include:
● Brushing at least twice a day and flossing
● Eating a balanced diet
● Using dental products that include fluoride, including toothpaste
Emergency Dentistry
Dental emergencies usually involve broken teeth, avulsed teeth, or some type of severe pain in your mouth. Most emergencies are due to sports related injuries, car accidents, a dental abscess, or you could fracture a tooth while eating. It is important to contact your dentist immediately if any of these injuries occur.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures. Most whitening treatments need to be repeated to maintain your desired shade. Whitening your teeth can greatly improve your smile. Our office offers several different whitening options.
